A Record
This is an entry in the DNS that tells computers on the internet that when they type in www.yourdomain.com that you can find it at 123.456.789.0 This address is provided by your web host. You can only have your domain pointing to one of these IP addresses. [top] You may want to use an A Record because your web host doesn't provide you with the email forwarding (MX) or CNAME features that Domainland.com provides. [top] IP pointing is a great feature to use if your website has a static IP address. With IP, visitors moving through your site will always see your domain and the file name of the page they are on, instead of the IP address and file name. [top] Can I use an "A record" in conjunction with other forwarding services? Yes. You will only be able to use our MX (mail forwarding) and CNAME services if you are using our DNS. [top] I have a shared IP address. Can I use ,"A Record" forwarding? You won't be able to use this type of forwarding and you must then use the DNS provided by your web host. [top] How long will it be before I can see my changes? Allow 48 hours for external networks to update. It is important to remember that information about your domain name may be retained by other networks across the Internet for a period longer then 48 hours and Domainland.com has no control over this. [top] How do I set up address forwarding? In one host name field type in an @. In a second host name field type in www. To be safe, in a third host name field type in your domain name only (i.e. yourdomain.com NOT www.yourdomain.com). Set the "pref" to 10 and select address forwarding in the drop down box. Now, just enter in the IP address in each of the three address field boxes and then click on "save my changes". [top] Domainland and
